URZULEI

Urzulei, land of wind and stone,
where silence embraces the mountains
and time dances between rocks and paths.

Urzulei is a place where nature speaks with an ancient voice, amidst wind-sculpted rocks and silent woods. The Supramonte opens up into deep gorges and hidden paths, while the crystalline waters of Gorropu tell stories of times gone by. Here, time seems to slow, giving way to the earth's breath and the footsteps of those who still walk the shepherds' paths. It is a wild and authentic corner, where every gaze loses itself in the infinite, and every stone holds the secret of a pure and uncontaminated Sardinia.

Located in the central-eastern part of the island between Ogliastra and Barbagia, it borders the municipalities of Baunei, Dorgali, Orgosolo and Talana.

Urzulei is a town that proudly preserves its cultural identity, intertwining nature, tradition, and conviviality. Its food and wine culture reflects the pastoral soul of Barbagia: the typical cuisine is simple yet rich in authentic flavors. Among the most iconic dishes are carasau bread, artisanal sheep and goat cheeses, roast meats slowly cooked over an open fire, and traditional desserts such as su coccone 'e sappa, made with grape sapa and almonds.

To accompany meals, a glass of Cannonau is always a must, a robust and fragrant wine, a symbol of Sardinian hospitality.

Alongside food, tradition manifests itself in more dynamic ways: among the most deeply rooted customs is sa murra, an ancient oral and gestural game that enlivens village festivals and brings together young and old in challenges filled with rhythm and passion. During religious and popular celebrations, the town fills with music, tenore songs, and traditional dances, moments when the community gathers around its roots.

These expressions, together with the wild beauty of the Supramonte and the strength of tradition, make Urzulei a place where time seems to pass more slowly, preserving an authentic and vibrant Sardinia.
